Fence Post Alternative Uses

Fence Post Alternative Uses

Many of you reading will know our DuraPost® product as a superior fencing solution – a stylish, secure, and easy-to-maintain fencing solution at that. But are you aware of its alternative uses?

While DuraPost® was designed to address the pitfalls of traditional concrete and timber fencing, the steel post system can actually be used for a range of different purposes. Whether that be in you back garden, driveway, or on commercial land.

So, without further ado, here are six alternative uses for DuraPost®, selected by our experts:

1. Raised beds

Raised beds are a simple, yet effective way to bring more nature and style into your garden. They provide control over the health of the soil responsible for growing your plants, allowing them to flourish with a deep growing area that encourages root growth.

As for the raised beds themselves, they can be used to add another level, layer, or dimension to your garden. Not only does this help enhance the overall aesthetic of your outside space, but makes garden work a lot less strenuous on your back. All of which can be achieved with the help of DuraPost®! See the image below demonstrating DuraPost® in action.

The Olive Grey DuraPost® system has been used in combination with bow top European panels and trellis. The raised bed has been created using stacked composite gravel boards with reinforcing bars, combined with classic posts for the straights and corner posts at each corner. U channels were then used to join each corner together – a fantastic outcome that matches the fence for a soft feel to the garden.

2. Decking base framework

Decking is a stunning and practical addition to a home and garden. It provides a perfect place to entertain friends, enjoy some food and drink, and even lounge around in the sun.

In fact, adding decking to your home can increase its value and desirability too. When a prospective buyer is narrowing down their list of potential homes, the finer details of your property sure do make a difference – especially when done properly with DuraPost®.

The pre-galvanised post system offers a sturdy structure for your decking, without the worry of any water or insect damage. Take a look at the example below for some decking inspiration.

3. Compost bins

A little goes a long way, and that stands true with composting. Compost bins are a great addition to any garden, providing your household with a natural way to reduce landfill waste and help plants grow. So, if you have room for a compost bin, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start making one.

If the thought of an untidy, rotten looking mess puts you off, not to worry. Compost bins can be made to look appealing; you just need the right materials to create something that doesn’t look out of place. By matching your fence or shed colour to that of your compost bin, you won’t even notice it’s there - If your fence is DuraPost®, why not make a compost bin to match?

In the below image, compost bins have been erected using the corner/gate posts and U channels combined with stacked composite boards to create the sides. The front hasn’t been screwed in from the back, which allows the front boards to be lifted for access to the compost. Reinforcing bars can be added for additional strength depending on size.

4. Lawn & driveway edging

The use of edging around grassy areas in your outdoor space can make things a whole lot neater and easier to maintain. It saves trimming time, gives a manicured appearance, and provides a root barrier to prevent invasive weeds. Not to mention the contrast it gives to the house and remainder of your landscape.

If you like the sound of edging, try DuraPost® for a custom look that will stand the test of time.

5. Custom-built structures

You may have caught on already, but DuraPost® can be used for almost anything you can imagine. From the four points listed above, through to custom-built structures like the one shown below.

6. Bespoke benching

Seating is an essential element of a well-designed outside space. It allows you to relax, put your feet up, and enjoy the outdoors for longer periods of time. But whilst there are dozens of seating options available, few offer the level of versatility that a bench does. They save you space, provide stability, are easy to clean, and can be a decorative addition to your home – a far better option over singular garden chairs. So, to tackle your outside seating arrangements, try bespoke benching with DuraPost for a clean and stylish look. We think it works great!

The point is, DuraPost® is extremely durable. It doesn’t rot, warp, or crack like wood and concrete can, giving you a guaranteed product life of up to 25 years.

With a wide range of colours, styles, and matching accessories, you can create a truly unique, long-lasting, and stylish garden with DuraPost®.
